How to find a cheap domain registrar

Spaceship Logo

Today I get notification from my domain registrar name.com that my domain expiries soon. The extension of the “pro” zone that I liked before costs 32.38 euro. Which looks like to much for the blog without AD. So I decided to find alternative…

I asked Gemini and it recommended to compare prices on one of the agregators. I choose the next one

There I found a pretty good offer

  • Registration: 1.18 eur with the renewal 3.98

Porkbun registrar

I heard already something about porkbun.com but never used them before, so I decided to try to register new domain with them. Unfortunately, right after registration they requested to pass documents (passport) validation with some 3rd party service, and I don’t want to share my docs with someone without the reason. So, I have deleted my account immediately.

Spaceship registrar

I asked Gemini again and it recomended me to use SpaceShip.com . I have registered new account in a couple of clicks with just the basic information. In the next 5 minutes I have registered new domain and configured NS records.

Half an hour later I fully migrated my website from the phpdev.pro to phpdev.top

For those who have a “gray” projects I also recommend to check their negative reviews on Trustpilot before registration as they looks like shutdown some domains in case of claims, so be ready for this if you’re publishing content that could result in DMCA complaints or other abuses.

Conclusions

Let’s see what experience I’ll get with Spaceship registrar, but looks like I’ll migrate all my domains from the Name.com which is IMHO overpriced, for example the same “.top” domain costs 13.49 despite Spaceship and Porkbun sells it at around 1.5 euro with a 4 euro renewal…

And what I want to say in the end – I have saved 32.38 – 1.18 = 31.20 euro which will cover my one month Gemini subscription and couple of beers. Good deal))
